"Dear Friends:
Be ever mindful of the days gone by in which, after you were first spiritually enlightened, you endured a great and painful struggle. (32) Do not, therefore fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward. (35)
Hebrews 10:32 and 35

Spiritual struggles will bring glorious compensation. We have the choice to do better or to stay stuck in fear. We have the choice to project our fears out to others or keep growing even when it is painful. You who have been spiritually enlightened are encouraged to be the positive examples and yet many leave, or run away because it is a great challenge to stay. Don't let fear of difference run you away from God, your church, your life!

"Dear Friends:
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
Colossians 4:5

Living in wisdom does not happen by accident. There are many opportunities for us to use Godly wisdom instead of 'acting' out. Instead of using discretion we get side tracked by criticism and judgement. I have been told you are either part of the problem or part of the solution ... Using wisdom helps us live in the solutions of life. I believe we must take advantage of every situation to live and move and have our being in the way of Godly wisdom. And above all these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony.]
Colossians 3:14

Putting on love means that you don't always get your way! We are told to be gentle and forbearing with one another and by doing so we can work out the grievance we may have with self and others. Think the best of others and allow God to enter the situations of struggle.

The Jews were amazed and asked, how did this man get such learning without having studied? Jesus answered, 'My teaching is not my own. It comes from God who sent me (John 7:15-16, NIV).

God we thank you for revealing yourself to us in Jesus and for speaking your words of truth through your Son. Continue to help us as we seek to understand and obey Jesus' words and honor your will.

"Friends:

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal (Matt 6:20, New American Standard).

What if you were asked to give up your house, car or money to follow Jesus? Depending upon your response, you can determine what or whom you are serving? Lets remove the barriers that keep us from serving God fully. Nothing should hinder or stand in the way when it comes to following Jesus.

"Friends:

For what does it profit anyone to gain the whole world, and forfeit their life [in the eternal kingdom of God]? For what can anyone give as an exchange (a compensation, a ransom, in return) for their [blessed] life [in the eternal kingdom of God]? (Mark 8:36-37 Amp)

How many times have you found yourself expending energy seeking materialistic possessions, position or power? Remember to keep in mind that whatever we accomplished on earth is temporary and not worthy of losing your soul. However, a life spent following Jesus allows us to live abundantly and have eternal life.

"Dear Friends:
I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.-- (Mark 10:15 NIV)

We have many life experiences that has taken us past the ability to be as innocent as a child. However Jesus does not ask us to forget our experiences; but Jesus does require an attitude adjustment. If we are to enter God's Kingdom, we must accept confess our needs, accept God's goodness and commit our lives to God's guidance.

"Dear Friends:
Therefore I always exercise and discipline my self [mortifying my body, deadening my carnal affections, bodily appetites and world desires, endeavoring in all respects] to have a clear (unshakable, blameless) conscience, void of offense toward God and toward others.
Acts 24:16 (amp)

Being disciplined with our attitude is as important as being disciplined in other areas of our life. How can you be better disciplined? Here are some ideas;
1. Create a to do list
2. Set some Personal Goals
3. Ask for Gods direction and guidance
4. Seek some good counsel ...
There are many others but hopefully you get the idea.

God on high is mightier and more glorious than the noise of many waters, yes, than the mighty breakers and waves of the sea.
Psalm 93:4

Coming home from Oregon last November we drove the coastal route California Highway One. We saw the mighty breakers of the ocean and the spay of the water over the rocks. "Commitment
Written by Rev. Terri Miller

Why do I hesitate to give God my All
I do believe that it is me that God has called

Do I really think I’m able to run life’s race;
without the compassion of Gods grace?

Can I take the first step and then on to the next?
Doing whatever it takes to live out the holy text?

Maybe its fear that has hold of my faith
Or could it be I need commitment to take its place?

We make excuses for our life and say ”One more day”
And yet one more day may never come our way

Jesus hung on a cross for you and for me
The least we could do is share Gods liberty

Instead we complain and fail to commit
Because we often see we are the ones that do not fit

There is more to life than our circle of friends
God calls us to come and to make amends

With passion we can serve and commitment we give
Without the past of the fear to re-live

No matter what happened and no matter how
Its time to commit and the time is now!"

And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Christ:[we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to Gods will (in agreement with Gods own plan), God listens to and hears us.
1 John 5:14

If we could just begin to understand that God has our best interest at heart then when negative things happen to us we would be able to handle them better. I would encourage you to have confidence in God and Gods plan not your own idea of what should happen. I know ... easy to say ... harder to do! But with God all things are possible!

"Dear Friends:
Understand [this] my beloved. Let every person be quick to hear [a ready listener] slow to speak, slow to take offense and to get angry. For a persons anger does not promote the righteousness God [wishes and requires].
James 1:19-20

Anger is one of many emotions we have and yet there are some very specific instructions about not getting or staying angry! Sometimes our anger is out of selfishness, or the failure to really listen. Sadly some people have years of anger at parents, partners, or others. If you have anger inside seek help from God, Counselor, or some other positive source. Anger will kill you if it is allow to have a home in you.

"Dear Friends:
Do not neglect the gift which is in you, [that special inward endowment] which was directly imparted to you [by the Holy Spirit] by prophetic utterances when the elders laid their hand upon you. Practice, cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them. [as your ministry] so that your progress may be evident to everybody.
1 Timothy 4:14-15 (amp)

Sometimes we forget that God has given us gifts! What gifts have you been neglecting? I encourage you to be open to using those gifts now! Your community of faith needs you.

"Dear Friends:
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length, and depth and height; and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Epheisans 3:17-19

Allowing the richness of the Spirit of God to dwell in your life requires being grounded in the Word! When that is established your life will be filled to overflowing!

"Dear Friends:
In keeping with [the oath's greater strength and force] Jesus has become the Guarantee of a better (stronger) agreement [a more excellent and more advantageous covenant].
Hebrews 7:22

Most of us like 'gurantees' that protect us when something fails. Jesus offers us a lifetime guarantee called grace, grace we don't pay for! This is so much better than any guarantee you may get from a store! In what do you put your faith? Where is the guarantee?

Daily Devotion

"Dear Friends:
Now the meaning of the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.
Luke 8:11

This is a great illustration how Gods word can work in our lives or not!
The seed or the word of God fell on the rocks, in the midst of thorns and into good soil. The seed that fell in good soil produced 100 fold, not that is a great return. So the question for us is what kind of soil are we? Do we allow the word to come in for a bit and when trouble comes we get uprooted? Do we take sprout but have no roots?
The great thing is we have the opportunity to change the yield in our life by planting Gods word.

"Dear Friends:
And thus Jesus fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah. He Himself took [in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases.
Matthew 8:17

Today we come up close and personal with Jesus as we observe what is called Good Friday. This is the day that Christ was crucified and those things He took to the cross were sin, weakness, diseases ... all of our hurts and pain. Take at least a few moments today to ponder the grace you were given.

his texts reminds me that calling on God is for my own good. Call on God because it is in Gods power that we are given liberty. It is by the resurrection of Jesus that we are given life eternal. Today I implore you to call on God!

Do you not discern and understand that you [the whole church at Corinth] are God's temple (Gods sanctuary, and that God's Sprit has a permanent dwelling in you [to be at home in you, collectively as a church and also individually] ?

"Dear Friends:
Love does no wrong to one's neighbor [it never hurts anybody]. Therefore love meets all the requirements and is the fulfilling of the law.
Romans 13:10

There was a song some years ago that said Love is all you need. If you have ever experienced the power of someone's love you know it fills a need. But Gods love fills your life need which means it would benefit us to work on our relationship with God. After all I know God is always willing.

"Dear Friends:
Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
1 Corinthians 13:7

Love believes the best, how come it is so hard for us to believe the best in the people we love? Could it be the baggage we carry around from past hurts, pains and broken places? Friends, love is not always easy but if we can just start with unpacking our garbage and let love in to those places we would be able to give more, and receive more. Love endures without weakening now that is powerful.

Be exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations.

"Dear Friends:
For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotism, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of the present darkness against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.
Ephesians 6:12 (amp)

When you take action toward serving God you realize that there is a Spiritual battle going on. We are told in the very next verse to put on Gods Spiritual armor. If we head into the battle without it then we risk so much, because the wrestling starts when we serve. Do you have Gods spiritual armor on?

Little children, let us not love [merely] in theory or in speech but in deed and in truth (in practice and in sincerity).
1 John 3:18

The spiritual practice of loving not because we have to, but because we are called to and actually want to is something that Jesus demonstrated for us. My prayer is that this spiritual practice would be at work in our daily lives. Starting today!!!!

"Dear Friends:
Therefore, rejecting all falsity and being done now with it, let everyone express the truth with their neighbor, for we are all parts of one body and members one of another.
Ephesians 4:15

It is important that we seek and find out what is just, true and good and reject the negative, false and slanderous ways. This may take some work because so many times we see the negative instead of the positive. God teach us to express loving compassion with one another and be compassionate.
